League Cup Final
Posted on: Tuesday 15 May 2012

The League Cup final brought the curtain down on the 2011/12 season in the Langbaurgh Sunday League, with Thornaby FC hosting the tie between Park End and South Bank FCA.

In a game affected by swirling wind at Teesdale Park, the sides were relatively evenly matched throughout.

After a goalless 90 minutes, the game went to extra time.

It was South Bank FCA that made the breakthrough as the game passed the 100 minute mark. An own goal from Park End, brought delight to the Division One runners-up.

With chances sparse in the final stages, South Bank FCA hung on to secure the League Cup.

The League Cup final is set to bring the curtain down on the 2011/12 season for the Langbaurgh Sunday League, this coming Sunday 13 May at Teesdale Park, home of Thornaby FC, kick-off at 10.30am.

Division One Champions Park End will face South Bank FCA, who finished second, four points behind the eventual winners.

Park End were beaten in last season's League Cup final, while South Bank FCA will be looking for victory over the side that pipped them to the Division One title.

South Bank FCA were given a first round bye in this year's League Cup, but went on to beat Division Two side Marstons 6-4 in round two, Division Three Champions AFC Sheep 3-2 in the quarter-finals and Division Three's The Buccaneer 3-1 in the semi-final.

Park End have played in every round of this year's competition, brushing aside Ormesby CTP, who finished bottom of Division Two, 11-0, before beating fellow Division One side The Black Swan 5-0 in round two. The quarter-final saw a 4-1 victory over The Cleveland, in which Park End conceded their first goal of the competition, before sneaking past Village Park Rangers 2-1 in the semi-finals.

Entry is priced at just £1, so make sure you're there to support the teams and the Langbaurgh Sunday League for the final game of the season.

Terry Smith Trophy

The final of the Terry Smith Trophy saw Division Three side Beechwood Youth FC face off against Roseberry Park of Division One, at Teesdale Park, Thornaby FC.

After a cagey opening 45 minutes, the sides went in goalless at the break.

An early second gave Beechwood Youth, who triumphed in last weekend's Terry May Trophy, the lead in the game.

The goal only served to kick Roseberry Park into action, as they moved up through the gears. The equaliser brought momentum to the first division side, as Beechwood Youth were forced onto the backfoot.

Three further goals saw Roseberry Park assert their superiority as they ran out eventual winners, with a 4-1 scoreline.

Division One

Tuesday evening saw the final league game of the season, as South Bank FCA hosted Dormans FIFC and the home side ran out 5-0 winners with second place already more than assured.

Terry May Trophy

In the final of the Terry May Trophy, Division Three Champions AFC Sheep were upstaged by an impressive Beechwood Youth FC.

All three first half goals came from Beechwood Youth FC, as they opened the scoring through Mally Skedd, the left-back hitting a stunning 35-yard looping drive. Two set-pieces brought two goals for Rob Sturdy, as AFC Sheep found themselves 3-0 down at the break.

Despite AFC Sheep pulling a goal back close to the hour mark, Beechwood Youth FC restored their three goal advantage through Craig Thomas.

AFC Sheep did pull a goal back after good work in the final third, but couldn't force their way past a Beechwood Youth FC defence, led by Man of the Match Michael Wickman, as they secured the Trophy 4-2 after an entertaining second half.

Division One

In the only game in the first division, champions Park End overcame The Cleveland 5-1 as both teams rounded off their campaign.

Dormans FIFC's game with South Bank FCA was postponed.

With just two games left in Division One, both involving Dormans FIFC, the league season is just about complete.

Division Two

In the final Division Two game of the current campaign, Riverside FC beat Redcar 3-0 on home soil to secure a fifth place finish.
