Langbaurgh Sunday League
Weekly Round-Up - January 22
Posted on: Monday 23 January 2012
Division One
The First Division fixtures were somewhat depleted this week due to North Riding County Cup commitments for many, but the one game that did go ahead, didn't disappoint.
Ormesby FC hosted champions Park End, in a game that ebbed and flowed, but gale force winds made conditions difficult for both sides.
Park End eventually ran out 4-3 winners, fending off an inspired Ormesby comeback to seal the points and open up a gap at the top of Division One.
Division Two
For the second week running, shock results were the order of the day.
Second-bottom of the league Marstons hosted Riverside and humbled their opponents running out 3-1 winners.
Top of the table Middlebeck travelled to Stockton Milehouse and despite being 2-0 up at half-time, the home side came back to force a 2-2 draw in a thrilling game.
Lakes United were unable to capitalise on Middlebeck's dropped points, as they were also held by third-bottom Ormesby CTP in a fesity 4-4 draw.
Courtyard were on the wrong end of a shock result for the second week running, this time losing out 4-2 to Lowe & Simpson Staircases.
Division Three
The wind was once again dominant as The Tiger hosted and The Buccaneer. The home side were 2-1 down at half-time, despite having more of the play, but a strong second half performance from The Buccaneer ensured The Tiger were beaten 5-2.
The Piper's difficult run continued as they went down 14-0 to Beechwood Youth FC.

Division One
The Cleveland turned in a superb performance to overcome Ormesby FC 10-0, to move up to third in the Division due to others not playing.
In the only other game of the weekend, South Bank FCA hosted Village Park Rangers and the side played out a tight affair that ended 4-3 to the home side.
Division Two
The shock defeat of the weekend came in an action-packed game between title-chasers Courtyard and bottom of the league Redcar FC. A serious injury curtailed the first half, stoppages ensued, disallowed goals and sendings off were the order of the game. It was Courtyard who were humbled, as Redcar ran out 2-1 winners.
That result allowed the top two to open up a gap at the top. Middlebeck cruised past Marstons, winning 4-0, while Lakes United maintained the one-point gap to the leaders with a comfortable 3-1 win over Lowe & Simpson Staircases.
Marton Rovers moved into a strong position, with games in hand, with a 4-2 win over Ormesby CTP to keep their title-hopes in good shape. Despite finding themselves without several key players and 2-1 down with only 20 minutes remaining, goals from Jonny Curwen, Nathan Williams and Les Wilson ensured that Rovers kept up the pressure at the top.
Division Three
The Buccaneer kept their winning-streak in tact, easing past FC Khans 6-2 with a double apiece from Lee Carr and Lee Morris, as well as strikes from Joe McKenna and Mark Stokes.
Second place Beechwood Youth were held to a 3-3 draw with The Tiger, who surged into an early two-goal lead within the opening 10 minutes. Beechwood eventually went in at the break 3-2 down, but found the equaliser in the second half, and as both sides missed chances to seal all three points, the game ended in stalemate.

Division Two
Lakes United and Marton Rovers faced off and the two promotion-chasing teams served up a thrilling 2-2 draw. Lakes took an early lead after some quick thinking, before Marton Rovers took the lead through Kev Young and Mark James, before the home side grabbed a point with a goal two minutes from time.
Division Three
FC Khans ran riot over Piper FC - who are still looking for their first points of the season - winning 18-2.
In the other game, The Buccaneer overcame Beechwood Youth 6-1 to keep their 100% record in tact at the top of the table
